Dr. Carol Shuman is a behavioral medicine psychologist, Registered Nurse, journalist, author and lecturer, community activist, columnist, and motivational speaker. She holds a Ph.D. in psychology from Texas A&M University-Commerce and she has been certified by Albert Ellis, Ph.D. as an REBT therapist, associate level, and clinical supervisor. She holds AEI certificates in child, adolescent and family therapy and addictions.
She is the author of Jenny Is Scared: When Sad Things Happen in the World, (Magination Press, 2003) for children and their parents to work together to explore fears and reactions surrounding terrorism, war and other violent events.
She has three books under way: Learning to Pick Daisies While Walking on a Tightrope, psychological self care during and after breast cancer (Dr. Shuman is a breast cancer survivor); A Vacation To Die For, the tragic story of the murder of young Rebecca Middleton in Bermuda; and It’s Up to Me! Helping Children Make Good Choices (Magination Press, in press).
Dr. Shuman has more than 30 years health care experience including management of major health care operations in hospitals, prison and military settings, community health, and psychological settings—both private and government.
A fulltime author, consultant, and speaker, Dr. Shuman is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Institute for Humor Research, the National Writers’ Association, and others. She makes her homes in Gainesville, GA, and Bermuda with her husband, Gary. Her son and daughter-in-law, Denny and Dawn, live with the cutest grandson ever, Carter, in Seattle, WA.
